Journal entry 6

What CST and IST grade what you allocate yourself for this project? Justify your response

A ‘B’ because we have done an alright job but not to a very high achievement.

What could you do tonight that would improve your grade?

I could edit my video more and add the clips we recorded today and go through both rubric to ensure I get a good grade.

What grade do you think your team will give you for teamwork? Why?

We will get an ‘A’ because all my group members communicated with us everyday and was very cooperative.

Thinking about your presentation on Monday, what do you need to do to score an “A” grade? (hint: Look at the presentation skills). What could you do before Monday, to ensure you receive an “A”?

Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of how to use the video camera appropriately.

Implements comprehensive camera techniques.

Produces a comprehensive move production.

Uses comprhensive effects to engage the audience.

I should make sure all this is in our video to ensure to get an ‘A’.

Journal Entry 5

  • What influences your values about issues relating to your life?

Culture, beliefs, hobbies, interested in education or not.

  • Do you ever compare images/values presented by the media to those of the bible? If so why? If not why not?

Not I don’t because the media doesn’t have the view of the Church and don’t necessarily follow it.

Has this project challenged you to examine your values? Why / Why not

Not really because I have not had a chance to do so in the project.

Journal Entry 4

  • How do you feel the media portrays social justice issues?

They protray it as very bad and that something must be done about it.

  • Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice issues why/why not?

No because there are many social justice issues.

  • Do you think that the media operates from a moral framework? Give evidence by using your research.

No as present in http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4330164.stm.

Journal Entry 3

1. Open and read the “How to write a critique” document in the resources menu.

Describe what is a critique.

A critique involves identifying critical things to say about an article and resisting the temptation to describe rather than analyse.

2. Outline the FOUR stages in a critique.

A critique usually has 4 parts:

  • An introduction (which directs the reader’s attention to the publication and your response to it)

  • A summary of the article

  • Your analysis or critical commentary on the original text

  • Your evaluation or conclusion

3. Can a critique be positive? Discuss.

Yes it can depending on its overall points on negative and positive. The positive can be demonstrated through the analysis and conclusion which will sum up the ideas.

4. Critique the accuracy of the following articles:

The first article was about the Beijing Olympics which will be commencing. They talk about how the Chinese people are making holes identified through satellite images. The news readers claim that they will place branched and leaves on top of the hole and trap everyone. They say they have planned the attack for thousands of years. This information isn’t accurate by me looking at different sources and looking at google earth.

The second article is about a  2 year old donkey called up to Pro Donkey Basketball League. They talk about this donkey playing in front of many people in Basketball and is not ready mentally for this. They ckaim that a coach will change this donkey to like the audience.  This information isn’t accurate by me looking at different sources especially as donkey basketball doesn’t exist or doesn’t exist in the media world.

Journal Entry 2

1. Name the issue
Schapelle Corby who has been sentenced to drug smuggling without any solid proof.

2. Describe one media account of this issue
A related article is on the Sydney Morning Herald talking about how she was found guilty of smuggling drugs into Bali and an insight into the investigation of how the drugs could’ve been placed in Schapelle’s bag or whether she actually did it.

3. Where did you get this media account from?
I got it from the ”Sydney Morning Herald”.

4. Is this media account correct or reliable? Why?
it is reliable and correct because the Sydney Morning Herald is a well known source and is read across Australia and is known for its authenticity.

5. Where else might you be able to find more information about this issue?

You could find it on the Channel Nine website for more articles relating to this social justice issue.

Journal Entry 1

1. Describe TWO things that you have learnt during this lesson.

I have learnt how to make a newspaper article twisting the story and what this tells me is that the media can make you try to believe things which may twist the truth. I also learnt how the media can copy things from other media sources and claim it as their own and risk going to court.

2. Identify TWO areas you want to concentrate on during this project that you think need a greater improvement from the last project.

I need to have better group communication and go through the Entry Document and Group Rubric as a group and make sure everyone has understood everything.

3. Discuss TWO ways in which your group could resolve any disputes during this process.

We can have a vote on things or clarify things with the teacher.
